The International Board Certifying Examination in Dermatopathology (Diploma in Dermatopathology) will be organized on Saturday, October 2, 2027, in Frankfurt/M., Germany.

Part 1 (slides) of the examination will be done with digital slides. The examination includes digital slides of 80 cases. The candidates are asked to give the best diagnosis from multiple choice or short-answer questions. The cases are straight forward; a few rare, non-controversial entities will be included. 

Computers will be provided on-site (personal laptops are not allowed). In order to allow candidates to become familiar with the digital system, a set of 15 cases has been uploaded on the same platform that will be used for the examination (Smart in Media).

Once on the examination platform, press the "Start" button to access the training slides. Mouse navigation is intuitive and user-friendly, with the scroll wheel recommended for changing the magnification. The sections can be rotated via the bar in the left lower corner, and specimen brightness can be adjusted in the right upper corner.

The second part of the examination (Part 2, afternoon, multiple choice or short-answer) is a series of 60 projected slides from topics that include clinical pictures of classical skin disorders, immunofluorescence (autoimmune diseases), and immunohistology.

The last part of the examination (Part 3, afternoon, multiple choice) consists of 30 multiple-choice questions. These questions have practical relevance and are based on recent literature (Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, American Journal of Dermatopathology, other) and on major Dermatopathology textbooks. Controversial issues are avoided.

The examination will take place at the Campus Westend of the Goethe University, Theodor-W.-Adorno-Platz 1, Frankfurt/M. (Germany). The exact meeting point will be announced later on.

The examination will begin at 8:00 am; on-site instructions will be provided at 8:30 am; please come not later than 8:00 am in order to allow sufficient time for identification. Please remember to bring a passport or ID card. Also, please remember to bring a pen or pencil (will not be provided by the organizers).
